Perisseuō (per-is-syoo'-o): To abound, to be in abundance, to overflow, to excel
This week's Greek word is perisseuō which means something is so full that it spills over the edges. Grace overflows. Joy overflows. Hope overflows. Thanksgiving overflows.
It's not "just enough" language. This is language that expresses "more than enough". Think about what that actually means for how God deals with you. Romans 5 says that where sin increased, grace perisseuō'd even more. Not matched it. Overflowed it!!!! And in 2 Corinthians, Paul describes the Macedonian believers giving out of deep poverty in a way that overflowed into rich generosity, because that's what grace does when it lands in a heart. Grace impacts us in a way where we can't sit still. God's grace spills onto other people.
I love how this word shows up in Paul's prayers too: this word asks God to make love increase and overflow more and more. That's not a one-time gift. God's love is a continuous, expanding thing.
Where in your life have you been treating God's grace like something that just barely covers you, instead of something that overflows?
Scriptures where we find "perisseuō":
Romans 5:15 — "how much more did God's grace... abound to the many..."
2 Corinthians 8:2 — "their abundant joy and deep poverty overflowed into rich generosity..."
1 Thessalonians 3:12 — "may the Lord... cause you to increase and overflow with love..."
